My journey: From Financial Admin to Qualified Paraplanner
The path to becoming a qualified paraplanner isn’t always a straight line, and mine was a bit different from the standard apprentice route. I hope my experience can shed some light on what’s possible for other young people thinking about their career options.
After finishing school, I took some time to figure out my next move. A few years later, I discovered a program called Kick Start Scheme, which was a great way to start working and training on the job. Essentially, it put me on the same track as the Financial Admin Apprentice pathway, allowing me to learn and grow within the financial industry.
The process was challenging but incredibly rewarding. I was able to learn at my own pace, and with each new piece of knowledge I gained, my confidence grew. This incremental learning approach made it much easier to absorb complex information and apply it to my daily work. The real-world experience I was getting alongside my studies was invaluable. It helped me connect the dots between theory and practice, which is so crucial in this field.
I won’t lie—some of the exams were seriously tough. The JO9 coursework was a real beast. There were times I wondered if I’d ever get through it, but with the support and guidance from my mentors, I was able to push through and pass with a distinction. Looking back, the extra time it took to complete that module was a blessing in disguise. It forced me to really consolidate my knowledge, making me a more skilled and confident paraplanner today.
When I reflect on where I started and where I am now, the biggest change isn’t just my professional skills—it’s my confidence. I feel so much more self-assured in my career and in my own abilities. If I can do it, I truly believe anyone can. My journey has shown me that with the right support and a bit of determination, you can build a career you’re proud of.
Now, I’m setting my sights on the next challenge: becoming a senior paraplanner or even an IFA adviser. The future feels wide open, and I’m excited to see where this path takes me next.
