Recently, I had the privilege of helping a client in a situation that many families may find all too familiar – facing the uncertainty of losing a long-time home.

My client, whom I’ll call Eleanor for confidentiality, had been living in the same property for over 20 years. It wasn’t just a house – it was home, filled with memories, routine, and comfort. However, when her landlord decided to sell, Eleanor was suddenly faced with the prospect of having to leave.
Eleanor is retired, with a modest pension income and limited savings. Buying the property outright on her own wasn’t an option – but moving didn’t feel right either. That’s when we started to look at alternatives.
By working closely with the client and their son, who lives with them, we explored options to include the son on the mortgage despite past financial challenges. Our expertise in the whole of market mortgage advice allowed us to find a lender. The result? The client was able to purchase their home and secure their future, remaining in the property they’ve known for over 20 years!
But here’s the thing: life happens. A few credit blips shouldn’t be the end of the road – especially when someone’s trying to support their family.
Joint Mortgage, mother and son
By working closely with a specialist lender who understood the bigger picture, we were able to secure a mortgage that worked for both Eleanor and James. The result? Eleanor can remain in her home, with the peace of mind that she and her son are now on the path to owning it.
Reassuring Protection
We also arranged life insurance for Eleanor to ensure James can repay the mortgage in full should Eleanor pass away during the term of the mortgage.
This case reminded me why I do what I do. It’s not just about numbers or rates – it’s about people, families, and helping them find stability when they need it most.
If you or someone you know is facing a similar challenge – whether it’s due to affordability, credit history, or simply not knowing where to start – please know that you’re not alone. There are often solutions out there, and I’d be happy to help explore them with you.
